Step-up SIP calculator

See what a monthly SIP or one-time investment can grow to, with an optional yearly step-up.

What this tool does

Step-up SIP calculator opens the sip calculator tool with this setting ready, so you only fill in your details.

A SIP (Systematic Investment Plan) puts a fixed amount into a mutual fund every month. Because each month’s money keeps growing, small amounts become large over many years. Enter the monthly amount, the yearly return you expect and the number of years to see how much you invest, how much it may grow, and the value each year. Add a yearly step-up if you plan to increase your SIP as your income grows, or switch to lumpsum for a one-time investment.

How to use it

  1. Choose monthly SIP or one-time (lumpsum).
  2. Enter the amount and the yearly return you expect.
  3. Enter the number of years, and a yearly step-up if you want.
  4. Read the total value and the year-by-year table.

Questions people ask

How is SIP return calculated?

Each monthly payment grows at the monthly rate (yearly return ÷ 12) until the end. Value = P × ((1+i)^n − 1) ÷ i × (1+i), where P is the monthly amount, i the monthly rate and n the number of months.

What is a step-up SIP?

You raise your SIP by a fixed percent every year, for example 10%. It builds a much bigger amount than a flat SIP.

What return should I use?

Nobody can promise a return. Many people check with 10–12% for equity funds over long periods and lower for debt funds. Try a few rates.

SIP or lumpsum, which is better?

Lumpsum puts all money in at once; SIP spreads it over months and suits a monthly salary. Switch the tab to compare.

Is this investment advice?
